READING NOTES
Establish the project conditions
Give the designer current survey information, water level observations and evidence of local erosion. Identify access for machinery and places where construction activity is constrained. Basket dimensions alone do not establish whether a riverbank protection arrangement suits the ground and hydraulic conditions.
Confirm the specified gabion
Identify the required double twist hexagonal woven mesh, wire and coating system. Keep this distinct from a welded gabion basket. Check that basket sizes, internal components and connecting materials correspond to the approved scheme, including transitions between different parts of the bank.
DECISION TABLE
Confirm the parameters against the project
Start with the application, then carry the required checks into the enquiry.Swipe horizontally on mobile to view the full table| Decision area | What to assess | Confirm in the enquiry |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Define the actual application | Environment, function and installation |
| Specification | Confirm product and dimensions | Material, specification, quantity and tolerance |
| Delivery | Align packing and destination | Timing, packing, drawings or photos |
Review stone and foundation requirements
Submit proposed fill information for approval and confirm its relationship to the mesh opening. Have the responsible engineering team resolve foundation, bank profile and toe conditions before work begins. Local scour and changes in water level require project assessment rather than a generic installation detail copied from another site.
Prepare inspection records
Agree checkpoints for ground preparation, basket identity, connections, filling and closure under the approved method. Record unexpected site conditions and obtain the relevant design response. This preserves a traceable link between the engineered arrangement, supplied products and the completed riverbank work.
