DIRECT ANSWER

Confirm the use before the specification

Select a ventilation guard as part of an engineered system that considers reach to moving parts, airflow and safe maintenance.

Bring the application, site conditions and delivery requirements into the decision so the quotation can be built around a real project.

READING NOTES

01

Establish the hazard geometry

Show the dangerous components, the proposed guard position and the ways a person could approach the equipment. Opening size must be considered with distance from the hazard and the complete guard arrangement. Have the responsible machine designer validate the applicable safeguarding criteria. Mesh described as finger protection on a quotation does not establish suitability for a particular fan or machine.

02

Review the whole air path

Identify the required operating airflow and the parts that obstruct it, including frames, filters and nearby equipment. Ask the equipment designer to assess the guard's effect within that arrangement. A nominal open area describes geometry, but does not by itself prove delivered airflow. Consider how dust accumulation could change the intake condition between cleaning visits.

03

Build maintenance into the layout

Provide access to inspect and clean both sides where the equipment design requires it. Choose fixed or movable guarding and any interlocks through the machine risk assessment. Guard removal and maintenance must follow the equipment's safe isolation procedure. Check that the installed guard cannot be displaced by routine service activity and that its edges and fasteners remain secure after repeated maintenance.
