READING NOTES
Start with the hazard assessment
Identify the moving parts, operating envelope and ways people interact with the machine. Include foreseeable cleaning, adjustment and maintenance activities. The guarding decision requires a competent machinery safety assessment; mesh selection by area and wire diameter cannot establish adequate protection on its own.
Coordinate openings and location
Provide the responsible designer with the proposed mesh opening, frame and installed position. Access through, over, under or around the guard must be considered in that assessment. Keep any required dimensions and safety functions in the approved design documents rather than deriving them from a generic product description.
DECISION TABLE
Confirm the parameters against the project
Start with the application, then carry the required checks into the enquiry.Swipe horizontally on mobile to view the full table| Decision area | What to assess | Confirm in the enquiry |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Define the actual application | Environment, function and installation |
| Specification | Confirm product and dimensions | Material, specification, quantity and tolerance |
| Delivery | Align packing and destination | Timing, packing, drawings or photos |
Plan access for the task
Show observation needs, service points and the route for removing components. Have the designer determine the appropriate fixed or movable guard arrangement and associated protective measures. Maintenance convenience should be considered before fabrication, when the position of a frame or access opening can still be revised.
Verify the complete assembly
Check mesh, supports, connections and access arrangements against the approved system. Inspect edges and fit so the guard does not introduce additional hazards. Retain the component references and assessment documentation for controlled replacement and later machine changes.
