READING NOTES
Divide the boundary into sections
Mark straight runs, corners, level changes and openings on the site plan. Give each section an identifier. A total perimeter length is useful for an early estimate, but it does not describe the different assemblies needed at the boundary's junctions.
List the main components
Schedule panels or fabric, line posts, end and corner posts, gates and the approved foundation or base arrangement. Distinguish panel width from the distance used to set out posts. Match each component to the current layout revision so a later gate change does not leave an obsolete quantity in the order.
DECISION TABLE
Confirm the parameters against the project
Start with the application, then carry the required checks into the enquiry.Swipe horizontally on mobile to view the full table| Decision area | What to assess | Confirm in the enquiry |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Define the actual application | Environment, function and installation |
| Specification | Confirm product and dimensions | Material, specification, quantity and tolerance |
| Delivery | Align packing and destination | Timing, packing, drawings or photos |
Count connections explicitly
Identify brackets, clamps, bolts, caps and gate hardware by the assembly that uses them. Ask the supplier to show quantities and descriptions rather than including an undefined accessories allowance. Review nonstandard junctions with the installer and responsible designer before they become purchasing assumptions.
Reconcile each delivery batch
Check that staged shipments contain compatible panels, posts and hardware for the planned installation section. Label packages to match the schedule. Keep a record of approved spare items so they can be distinguished from a counting error when the goods arrive.
