READING NOTES
Define the wall's actual role
Clarify whether the gabion is a decorative boundary, part of seating or a retaining structure. Similar looking walls may have different engineering requirements. Obtain the relevant site and structural review before treating an attractive reference image as a construction design.
Choose the basket and stone together
Identify the intended basket construction, including whether it uses double twisted woven mesh or another specified system. Review a representative stone sample alongside the mesh. Colour, shape and size distribution should be considered with the opening and the desired visible face.
DECISION TABLE
Confirm the parameters against the project
Start with the application, then carry the required checks into the enquiry.Swipe horizontally on mobile to view the full table| Decision area | What to assess | Confirm in the enquiry |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Define the actual application | Environment, function and installation |
| Specification | Confirm product and dimensions | Material, specification, quantity and tolerance |
| Delivery | Align packing and destination | Timing, packing, drawings or photos |
Resolve the lines and transitions
Show corners, end faces, changes in height and connections between units. Record the intended top profile and how lids will be closed. A short mockup can help the landscape team assess the face arrangement and exposed metalwork before approving the full order.
Include site preparation in the brief
The foundation, drainage and adjacent finishes belong in the coordinated site design. Confirm delivery access and the planned filling sequence with the contractor. Inspect basket alignment and connections during construction, while adjustments remain accessible, instead of waiting until every basket has been filled and closed.
