DIRECT ANSWER

Confirm the use before the specification

Mark slot orientation on drawings and packaging to coordinate appearance, drainage, support and the intended equipment layout.

Bring the application, site conditions and delivery requirements into the decision so the quotation can be built around a real project.

READING NOTES

01

Name the slot axis

A slotted pattern needs more than slot length and width. Show its long axis relative to the finished panel, with an arrow tied to a reference edge. Identify the installed top or the direction of material travel where relevant. A rectangle can be rotated and still fit its frame while presenting a different slot pattern to the process or viewer.

02

Review the intended function

For a draining panel, examine the installed slope, outlet locations and likely debris. For an equipment intake, have the designer assess the complete airflow path instead of assuming a preferred slot direction guarantees performance. For an exposed facade, review the pattern from the intended viewing angles. Where loading matters, the engineer should consider the perforation orientation within the actual supported assembly.

03

Keep direction through production

Carry the orientation mark into cut lists, formed views and delivery labels. For matching panels, state whether all slots follow one building axis or each individual panel's long side. Trial an adjoining pair when visual continuity is important. Before approving production, check that the marked direction remains unambiguous after bending or trimming removes the original reference edge.
