READING NOTES
Reassess the boundary purpose
Before adding sharp wire to an existing fence, ask the authorised security and safety team to review the site's current needs. Consider people using either side of the boundary and whether the proposed treatment is appropriate for the setting.
Review the system as a whole
Provide the responsible designer with the fence and post details, their condition and the proposed product reference. A topping changes the complete assembly and should not be treated as an isolated accessory purchase. Request a coordinated, approved component schedule before ordering.
DECISION TABLE
Confirm the parameters against the project
Start with the application, then carry the required checks into the enquiry.Swipe horizontally on mobile to view the full table| Decision area | What to assess | Confirm in the enquiry |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Define the actual application | Environment, function and installation |
| Specification | Confirm product and dimensions | Material, specification, quantity and tolerance |
| Delivery | Align packing and destination | Timing, packing, drawings or photos |
Preserve operational visibility
Include sightlines for routine observation, lighting and access to nearby equipment in the site review. Identify areas where vegetation or later additions could complicate inspection. The review should account for everyday operation as well as the initial appearance of the boundary.
Keep approvals traceable
Record the accepted fence system, topping product and support references under one revision. Require suppliers to identify substitutions and keep the maintenance team informed of the accepted arrangement. At handover, provide handling information and inspection responsibilities so replacement purchasing follows the reviewed system rather than adding incompatible components over time.
